My Note To My Fellow Students

I've gotten a touch tired of defending America and what we do...so when I sit in class (not all of them mind you, just the select few who's teachers would understand...) I put the following note on my desk so they can all see...

It's Not America's Fault...

...that your country sucks.

So far the response has been positive.

I don't know why you bother defending. I live here and I've been rather embarrassed of US lately.

Con quidado hijo.

Not all can grok that.

Some overly sensitive humorless unreasonables (hmmm....how many million are there) have over-reacted over far, far less.

Come home safe. The shoulder chip ain't worth it. Love ya.

It's more of a running joke than any actual malice. I wouldn't call it a "cold war"...that's too strong. It's more of a "cold discussion" or "invisble altercation". I'm a fairly vocal student...in other words, I've got a lot to contribute to class. So the teachers recognize this and call on me for input. That's a good thing. But (some) like to pick on me and my country. For example my Economics teacher refered to us as "large and fat". Of course I had to respond with "at least we make a decent whiskey" (he's Scotish) which degenerated into a Jack Daniels vs Johnny Walker battle. Hence the creation of the sign.

Yes...us Americans do stupid things...very embarassing things...but, oddly enough, I know we do. I'm painfully aware of that fact. And if people here feel the need to constantly remind me, I may feel the need to pop them in the mouth (kidding of course...pretty much). ;)
